Need to promote maritime clusters
    Given the current interest to foster the development of the maritime industry in the country, it is perhaps time that some thoughts are given to the take a maritime “cluster approach” towards the development of a “composite” industry that meets specific targets and national objectives. more
     
Prospects for Offshore Supply Shipping
    There is a need to take a re-look at the development of the offshore supply shipping sector in the country. more
     
MARPOL Annex I enteres into force
    On 1 August 2007 the Annex I of MARPOL came into force. The new regulation 12A, on oil fuel tank protection, adopted by MEPC 54 on 24 March 2006, sets out the requirements concerning the location of oil fuel tanks in all ships with an aggregate oil fuel capacity of 600m3 and above and which are delivered on or after 1 August 2010. more
     
A Rosy Economic Outlook in 2008
    The Malaysian economy is anticipated to strengthen further to between 6.0 percent and 6.5 percent next year from 6 percent in 2007. Domestic demand will be the main driver of the economy while external demand is expected to pick up in tandem with improved prospects in world trade. more

Worrying findings of study on seafarer’s fatigue
  A new report commission by the International Transport Workers Federation from Cardiff University’s Centre for Occupational and Health Psychology has added to what the ITF calls “the worrying portrait of a maritime industry where fatigue is endangering crews, vessels and the environment”. more
   
Transhipment Drives Growth of Malaysian Port
  Driven by a strong increase in the volume of transshipment containers handled, the total container trade at Malaysian ports last year posted an impressive 12 per cent increase over the volume the ports handled the previous year. more

IMW dredges Port Klang channel for bigger ships
  Integrated Marine World Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Inai Kiara Sdn Bhd, a member of MASA, is currently engaged in deepening the Northern Approach Channel at Port Klang to allow bigger and deep draft vessels to call at the port. more
